Spotify tells its own story, Loud & Clear
From Jon at Marketing Monday: They write that there are 12 million uploaders to Spotify, while at "the peak of the CD era, only a few thousand artists had their music on the shelves of record stores."In other words, the reason that more people than ever are complaining about not making money from music isn't just because the system is newly bad. It's also because there are more people than ever making music.Imagine if you had a similar influx of participants in any other industry; of course compensation would get weird. And, on the other hand, imagine if you were trying to distribute music in 1960. Your chances of reaching an audience would be slim. There are drawbacks that've come with all of this, but the genuine good is that it's never been easier to get your music heard by people you don't personally know.
